What are they?

The bluebonnet is the Texas state flower and the seeds live dormant during the harsh summers and thru the winter. The best time to plant the seeds is usually in the fall. During the winter their roots grow and strengthen.

The Bloom..

Often times, they bloom around the end of March into the beginning of April. This is mostly dependent on the climate and soil they are growing in. You would think drought would be bad for the wildflowers but the opposite is true. Usually the more drought the more chance of a huge bluebonnet bloom because the drought kills off the other wildflower competitors. Usually, the more rain, the more variety in wildflower.

Why the Name?

Becoming the state flower in 1901, the name originated in a few hundred years before. As settlers pushed out west, most women wore bonnets to brace the grueling Texas sun. So came the name, bluebonnet since its shape resembles that. Although, if you ask me they seem far more purple than blue.

The Tradition..

Its widely accepted that  the bluebonnets are a sign of spring and Texas heritage. In the 1930's, the Texas Highway department planted thousands of seeds along all state roads. The over all goal being beauty which in 2025 has been achieved.

So thankful for the incredible images Emma captured through our daughters first year of life. They were everything I dreamed of and she was so amazing to work with. Highly recommend!!

Jessica Roberts

Emma is hands down the best infant photographer you will ever work with. Her photos are beautiful, and she curates a memorable fun experience. Emma and Paige, her postpartum doula colleague, are baby whisperers and naturals at getting the tiniest babies to stay calm and cooperate with the camera. They were so generous with their time, talent and care that we cannot thank them enough.

Mahalo nui Emma - I’d give you a million stars if it were possible!

Emma has taken family pictures for us twice and we absolutely love her! Not only is she amazing at what she does, but she is so sweet and patient and made it an overall enjoyable experience! I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a photographer! We look forward to working with her more in the future.
